Frack Free Ellesmere Port & Upton (FFEP&U) issued their ‘Proof of Evidence’ from nine expert witnesses, to the Government Planning Inspector, ahead of the Public Inquiry. The inquiry will be held in Chester Town Hall from the 15thuntil the 23rdJanuary 2019.

FFEP&U are supporting Cheshire West and Chester Council (CW&C) in their defence of the planning committee decision to refuse IGas planning permission to flow test their well in Ellesmere Port. The grounds for their refusal were that it “fails to mitigate and adapt to climate change” and “ensuring best use of renewable energy use and generation”.

IGas propose to flare over 10 tonnes of untreated gas per day for up to 90 days using a low level chimney with emissions entering the air in the immediate outskirts of Ellesmere Port town.

FFEP&U expert witness Prof Kevin Anderson of the University of Manchester assesses “Shale Gas is not low carbon and the IGas proposals will not conform to the UK’s Paris 1.5 degC commitment to reduce climate change”.

CW&C’s expert witness Dr Paul Balcombe assesses that “the IGas ‘Green House Gas’ emissionswill be the equivalent of 1.6% of the total CW&C Council annual carbon budget”. In no circumstances can this be regarded as insignificant as IGas claim.

The Met Office upgraded forecasts last week to show the planet is on track to warm between 2.5 degC and 4.5 degC. Prof Richard Betts of the Met Office states “Global heating is more correct (than global warming) because we are talking about the energy balance of the planet”

We should not be allowing global warming of this nature to take place.

All businesses, organisations and members of the public, PLEASE, help us fight IGas from 15thuntil 23rdJanuary 2019 at Chester Town Hall.

Frack Free Ellesmere Port & Upton will object to this IGas development every step of the way.
